Fermi FBLA: Program of Work 2001-2002

The program of work consists of two main parts. The first is a list of the chapter's goals and the steps that will be taken to achieve them. The second section is a calendar of events that will take place throughout the school year. All information is subject to change.

Goals & Steps to Achieve Them

Goal: Pass membership of last year (54 members)

Actions: Make large posters, as well as 8.5 X 11 computer processed posters, recruit at freshmen orientation, show PowerPoint presentation to business classes, send out brochures to business classes, encourage members at informational meeting to spread the word about FBLA, make a morning announcement for the third week of school, have food at first informational meeting.

Goal: Increase communication between members and officers

Actions: Secretaries make weekly newsletters, have more morning announcements, start online community with announcements via e-mail, officer meetings every Wednesday, and chapter meetings once a month. 

Goal: Increase communication between chapter and school administration

Actions: Invite principal and assistant principals to FBLA induction, send the newsletters to the administration, and correspond with the principal about field trips and activities with enough notice and time. 

Goal: Improve the Chapter Website

Actions: Through Webmaster Steven Bartus, start a committee including secretary Michael Duffy to increase communication throughout the chapter, purchase a webmaster program to enhance the website, and include more pictures.

Goal: More organization with all activities and fundraisers

Actions: Assign a chairperson to control each activity and make a worksheet to help organize what needs to accomplished and recorded with every activity and fundraiser.

Goal: Improve the management of the chapter treasury

Actions: Make the treasurer in charge of all “petty cash,” ensure that all money is deposited within one week of the fundraiser, give complete control of organization of money to Treasurer Chris Fernald.

Goal: Have at least two speakers at chapter meetings throughout the year

Actions: Parliamentarian Adam Skowera is to contact a list of different speakers and see if they can attend chapter meetings, speak about getting a job, the American enterprise, business tactics, and leadership skills, hold the meetings in a different locations, such as the library if necessary on speaker days, and have refreshments at meetings with speakers. 

Goal: Conduct the Sixth Annual Business Seminar

Actions: Parliamentarian Adam Skowera to find a speaker by January 1, 2002 to speak at a seminar to be held in either March or April.  Assign a chairman to the event to ensure success and organization by January 1, 2002.

Goal: Hold more fundraisers

Actions: Car Washes (June 30 and July 21), Vice President of Fundraising Jennifer Pradhan to chair a raffle for the craft fair with local business and restaurant sponsorships, bake sale at craft fair, FBLA/FIRST Craft Fair (October 20, 2001), Christmas candy grams through homerooms, sell foam hands at fall and spring sport games (Thanksgiving Football game), Valentine Carnation Sale through homerooms, FBLA Day sponsorship by restaurants, and spring car washes.

Goal: Follow through with more activities

Actions: Plant mums by the business department at the beginning of the year, FBLA Induction at a restaurant, Trick-or-Treat Street, leadership development program at Hazardville Memorial Elementary School, volunteering at Loaves and Fishes for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Santa Letters, bring a canned-food item to each meeting, CT Children’s Place Easter Party, Christmas cards for members with candy canes, FBLA Alumni Day, February 2nd Shadowing Day, participate in Join Hands Day, Officer Elections, end-of-year party or activity, Business Student-of-the Year Scholarship, party for all Business Student of the Month winners and business teachers (possibly in coordination with the FBLA end-of-year party).

Goal: Participate in the State Leadership Conference with at least 25 members

Actions: Encourage members to attend from the beginning of the year, offer training and preparation for different areas of competition, and hold fundraisers to specifically cut down the cost of the registration.
